Weight Loss

Researchers found that those elderly people who intentionally lose weight by additional physical activity and (or) diet reduced the risk of mortality by half over the next eight years of weight loss. Were analyzed results of the study late 90s, aimed at assessing the impact of weight loss and exercise on the physical condition of 318 people aged over 60 with arthritis of knee joints. All volunteers – elderly people living normal daily life – were overweight at baseline. The first stage of weight loss, which was held for 18 months from 1996 to 1998, resulted in an average loss of 4.7 kg in 159 elderly volunteers. People in the control group, no efforts to lose weight, lose weight, too, naturally, on average – by 1.4 kg. After 8 years, researchers have found out which of the participants in the experiment has left this world. Mortality among the weight loss was two times lower than those who did not undertake efforts to reduce weight. In the oldest age group (75 years and over), the correlation between weight loss and reduced mortality was the same as that of those who were 60 to 75. This discovery interpretation of data: most likely, weight loss in older subjects in the research of other scientists were not intentional, but due to some diseases. While the people who participated in the experiment, tested only typical for their age group with health problems and no more. Thus, if the weight is reduced in old age as a result of diet or exercise, it helps to help deal with such age problems like high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and blood sugar, which helps to increase life expectancy.
